RUTIR - Report on Updates in Target Internet Resources

RUTIR can be used to obtain reports on new updates in Internet resources, called Target Resources, which are pointed at by hyperlinks in a HTML document, called a Watch Document. A user can incrementally supply to RUTIR a set of URLs representing personal Watch Documents. Selecting a URL from a user's personal set of Watch Documents, or providing a new one to RUTIR, RUTIR will investigate and then return a report regarding any new updates in Target Resources pointed at by the Watch Document since most recent visits by the user through RUTIR. Any newly supplied URL is automatically added to the set of URLs representing the user's personal Watch Documents. The Target Resources pointed at by a Watch Document can be in a variety of Internet protocols in addition to HTTP. A Watch Document can be an ordinary HTML document, a typical bookmark, or some list of hyperlinks coded as a HTML document.

Applications of RUTIR include watching updates in collections of news reports, technical reports, web home pages, bookmark targets, and so on, that have a potential to change in indefinite freqencies. It allows users to investigate updates in Target Resources at their convenience with ease.
