Diagnostic Examination

A student should pass a written diagnostic examination. The examination should be passed no later than the end of the second semester (not counting summer) after admission into Ph.D. program. See Comprehensive/Diagnostic Examination section of the handbook for details. There are three outcomes for taking the diagnostic exam:

Pass at the PhD level,

Fail with one repeat,

Fail with no repeat (Student will be asked to leave the Ph.D. program).

The Exam may be repeated at most ONCE.
Upon successful completion of the diagnostic examination a research guidance committee will be formed as described below.
