Procedure

The procedure for taking a candidacy exam is as follows.

  1. When the student and the guidance committee have determined that the examination should be taken, the chairman of the exam is chosen by the committee and the student should obtain a Request for Permission to Take the Ph.D. Candidacy Examination form. (University Form 15).

  2. The student should secure the signatures of the guidance committee.

  3. No later than four weeks before the date of the exam, the student should submit the form to the graduate program director and school dean, who will verify that the student meets the prerequisite for the candidacy examination.

  4. Once permission has been granted, postponement of the examination must have the approval of the research guidance committee and graduate program director.
