Travels with Wildcat

October 21,2005

We've been in busy traveling mode and I haven't been able to sit down and collect my thoughts till today. We were able to talk to Justin yesterday. He had a long list of things to send over to him. Most of them school supplies. He has already taught a day's worth of Geometry and sounded very cool, calm and collected about it. I probably wouldn't be but he sounds like he's really loving it. He said he's so busy between learning swahili and lesson plans he's had no time to think of home. He's been told by the Peace Corps workers who are there that you have more time to spare once you get out in the field. It is so great to hear his voice but I do miss him. He and his fellow group members pooled their money together and got a cell phone. They each take turns on it and Thursday is his day. We have decided that we are going to buy a sattelite phone once we get to Florida. It will take us anywhere.

We're approaching the Myrtle Beach area today and all of us on the waterway are watching this latest hurricane. It's so unbelievable. We listened to the weather radio one night and it was a tropical storm. The very next morning it was a category 5 hurricane! We plan to hang out in the Waccamaw River area until we get a handle on where it's going. We hope to be able to rent a car and visit our SC relatives the last weekend in October. We are traveling with a fun group of boats right now. 5 of them are ham radio operators. We're enjoying the daily conversations back and forth. I can't remember having such a big congenial group before.

Fair winds and following seas. Pam and Chris aboard Wildcat
