Computer Science Department News

ODU CS Department Professor Jing He recently got a grant from the ODU Office of Research's Multidisciplinary Seed Fund.

It provides $88,417 to the project “Localized Electron Cryo-tomography for High Resolution 3-dimensional Imaging of the Cell Membrane Protrusion from the Nanopores Induced by Nanosecond Electric Pulses”. This project involves a multidisciplinary team of Jing He (Computer Science), Hani Elsayed-Ali (Applied Research Center), Olga N. Pakhomov (Bioelectrics); Andrei G. Pakhomov (Bioelectrics); Howard White(Physiology, EVMS). The goal of the project is to develop both the computational methods and the experimental facilities for high-resolution imaging of the biological specimen. We will upgrade the electron microscope at the ODU ARC to incorporate the low-temperature technique in electron cryo-microscopy. It will be the first cryo-microscope for biological specimen in the Hampton area.
