Computer Science Department News
Two faculty members in the Computer Science Department had their projects awarded by the Office of Research at ODU for the 2011 summer research grant awards.
The faculty members are Dr. Stephan Olariu with the study on 'TRENDS: A Cyber-Physical System for Traffic-Related Events Detection and Dissemination' and Dr. Yaohang Li with the study 'Large Scale Manifold Learning and its Application in Biomedical Research'.
Here is a brief from Dr. Stephan Olariu:
Information has value and therefore can be traded or exchanged. In most cases the value of the information decays (often vary rapidly) in both time and space. Or project aims to explore the integration and automated incident detection with intelligent dissemination of traffic-related event notifications in the context of discounted information. One of the key objectives of this project is an algorithm that determines for how long, in space and time, is information about traffic event relevant to the traveling public. This is join work with Dr. D. C. Popescu from the ECE Department at ODU.
