Michael's area of research is in digital libraries, specifically in the areas of digital preservation, intelligent data objects and archival interoperability. Michael is a co-editor of the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) and (co-)author of over 60 publications. Prior to joining Old Dominion, Michael spent 11 years at NASA Langley Research Center, including one year on fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill.
