Mahmoud received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science with honors from Alexandria University in 1999. In 2005, he received the Master Degree in Computer Science from Alexandria University. His Master's thesis was focused on enhancing materialized view maintenance in data warehousing environment. He joined the PhD program in the Computer Science Department at Old Dominion University in Fall 2005. In 2007, he received the outstanding teaching assistant award given by College of Science for his excellent teaching and continuing good work in the Spring 2007 semester.
He decided to pursue his PhD under supervision of Dr. S. Olariu in fall 2006. Mahmoud's research interests include a wide variety of interesting vehicular ad-hoc networks related topics such as incident detection, efficient data dissemination, security, privacy, P2P and cloud computing. His research work and ideas were well received by the VANET research community, with 17 publications in various IEEE and ACM journals, conferences and workshops.
