Gongjun Yan received a B.S. in Mechanic Engineering from the Sichuan Institute of Technology in China in 1999. He worked as an aircraft engineer at Chengdu for two years. Gongjun began his M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China. He was recognized as the team lead of the research team in the Distributed and Parallel lab and developed the distributed file system and later the distributed operating system. After receiving a M.S in 2004, he worked as a senior software developer in Tencent, the top internet company in China. He obtained three patents regarding online secure payment, online artificial intelligent service, and instant messaging in the year 2005.
In 2005, Gongjun began work on his Ph.D. at Old Dominion University in Computer Science under his advisors Dr. Stephan Olariu and Dr. Michele C. Weigle. He has been working on the issues surrounding Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks and Wireless Communication. As a research assistant, he developed a Linux version of the MASC (TIA 733) audio codec which has been used in the audio processing industry.
Recently Gongjun received the Best Student Paper Award at the 9th IEEE Conference on Service Operations, Logistics and Informatics. The conference was held in Chicago in July, 2009.
