Programing Competition / Spring 2012 Programming Contest

Programming contest is on for this Saturday, May 12th from 10AM-2PM in Dragas 1103G!! Come on out and show off your programming skills... top prize is a brand new Windows Phone!!  ;D

Announcements / Programming Contest this Saturday 5/12!!!

OK guys, the contest is on!!! We've had time to relax from finals, so it's time to show off our programming skills. Our semi-annual programming contest will be held this Saturday May 12th, from 10AM - 2PM in the Dragas Open Computing Lab 1103G.
We will have a light breakfast provided, then we will explain the rules and begin the competition. Contestants will have a little over 3 hours to program as many problems as possible, and the person who solves the most problems within the allotted time wins. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place... 1st place is a brand new Windows Phone!!!! 2nd and 3rd place will receive Best Buy gift cards. Lunch is also provided, toward the end of the competition. If you have any questions, please e-mail Marissa at mhorn014@odu.edu. Otherwise, hope you can make it!  8)

It's ACM Election Time and We need officers!!!!! This week is our last ACM meeting of the semester, so come join us as we elect a new officer board! We haven't received any nominations yet, so please consider running for office or sharing this info with a friend.  :)
We need the following positions:
 
  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Programming Contest Coordinator
  • Webmaster
I am accepting votes via private ballot through e-mail if you cannot make it to Thursday's election. Simply e-mail me at mhorn014@odu.edu  and I will enter you in the election.
 
We are looking for bright individuals with integrity who can continue to lead and grow this exciting technology club!!
If you have any questions, please let me know... otherwise, we will see you Thursday April 19th from 12:30-1:15pm in Dragas 1117! (Lunch is provided)

Announcements / CS/ACM Cookout 2011!

Hi All,
   It's that time of year again where we put off studying for finals for a few hours and come enjoy the CS Cookout!!  ;D  This year, the CS/ACM cookout is being held Tuesday, April 17th from 12 noon- 3pm outside Dragas Hall so come by for lunch, or in between classes and hang out with your fellow CS folks!
There is no cost to attend, and there will be a prize raffle for a Best Buy gift card!

Announcements / Ruby on Rails at ACM Meeting Thursday, 4/12!!!

Hi Everyone,
      I'm excited to announce that we have a guest speaker coming to talk to us about Ruby on Rails at this week's ACM meeting!!!
  As usual, we are meeting tomorrow, Thursday, April 12th from 12:30-1:15 in Dragas 1117.
Lunch is provided for members, and non-members pay a nominal $2.
 Also, I'll be announcing the CS cookout, and ACM elections! We will be collecting nominations for the upcoming ACM election next Thursday, for all positions... don't miss it!

Hi Everyone! This Thursday, 4/5, we are having our weekly meeting in Dragas 1117 from 12:30-1:15pm to talk about the upcoming programming competition!!
Top prize is a brand new Nokia Lumina 800 Windows Phone!!
If you are interested in learning more about this semi-annual contest, I hope to see you at the meeting. We will discuss how the contest operates, the rules, and prizes...

Announcements / ACM Meeting Tomorrow with Presentation by IEEE!!

Hi Everyone! We are meeing tomorrow, 3/29 from 12:30-1:15pm in Dragas 1117, as usual! This week, we are excited to welcome special guests from the ODU IEEE Association, to come talk to us about their latest project in microcontrollers and robotics!     Between being out of town and spring break, I just saw this post... my apologies!! E-mail TJ, our Vice President, at: tcarson@cs.odu.edu or stop by the meeting tomorrow and talk to him, and he will direct you to the right place. Sometimes he handles the tutoring directly, and sometimes he has other ACM members assist; either way, we will get you some help!

Announcements / ACM Meeting tomorrow on Mobile App Development!!

Hi All, 
 
    For this Thursday's meeting, we are going to be looking at:
 
 How to develop mobile apps for the Windows Phone marketplace!!! Come and learn:
 
  - How to get signed up with AppHub to submit your apps
  - How to use Microsoft DreamSpark to download the Windows Phone Express
  SDK for Visual Studio to code from scratch, OR for the non-coders:
  - How to use AppMakr, Follow My Feed, etc. to create simple RSS feed
  based apps
  - How to sign up with Microsoft PubCenter to put ads in your apps to
  make money with every download!
  - Samples of completed apps in the Marketplace

We will be serving hot dogs, chips and drinks, so come ready to chow down
and have fun with Windows Phone!!

*As always, we meet Thursdays from 12-30-1:15pm, in Dragas 1117.*

OK, so you spoke and we listened... the food is back!!! Because we meet during activity hour, we understand many of you don't have time to get lunch and come to the meetings, so we will start having food at every meeting again, free for members and a $3 charge for non-members. To kick this off, we are having Nachos this Thursday, March 1st!! We are also having a guest speaker from Systems come and speak to us about opportunities to work in their department, along with exciting projects they are working on, so join us!!

Announcements / Attention all Gamers!!

OK guys... Microsoft has sent me an awesome box of prizes and swag to give out, so I'm hosting 2 XBox parties this upcoming week!!!
 
First one is this Saturday, February 25th from 12-4PM in Dragas 1103G (Open Computing Lab).
Second one is Tuesday, February 28th from 2-6PM in Dragas 1103G (Open Computing Lab).
 
I'll be collecting feedback on your opinion of the new metro dashboard user interface, and also will be setting up/playing Gears of War 3, Halo, and whatever else you bring.

If you're interested in attending, shoot me an e-mail at: mhorn014@odu.edu and let me know if you want to bring your XBox. :)
