Junior Information

Students in their Junior year should be looking for an internship or co-op opportunity if they have not begun to do so already. Students should also have decided on a minor or cluster at this point in time. Students should make plans to take the writing exit exam during their junior year.

  • Minors: These minors are popular with Computer Science majors and require the fewest additional courses. Includes: Computer Engineering, Math, Information Systems, modeling ans simulation.

  • Clusters: Clusters represent the collective effort of faculty from different disciplines bringing their interest and knowledge to bear on a specific theme or focus area. The Provost has approved ten clusters as models to begin the university's exploration of interdisciplinary, theme-focused upper-level undergraduate education. In order to ensure diversity of perspective, all clusters contain courses that provide a scientific perspective (natural or social science) and courses that provide a humanities perspective (history, philosophy, the arts and literature). CS 300 is an optioin in the Impacts 8 both the Technology Clauster and can be used to satisfy the CS requirement and one of the courses in the cluster.

  • Internship/ Co-Op/ Independent Research: Old Dominion offers several work-study or internship programs for students majoring in computer science. A research project or internship may also count as Computer Science elective (a maximum of 6 credits). Upper students must be employed during the time credit is awarded. A maximum of 3 credit hours per semester.
