Transferring to the Computer Science Program

[ Worksheet for students transfering an AS in CS ]
[ Prerequisite Structure ]
[ CS Four Year Curriculum ]

This is frequently a two stage process. After the Admissions Office receives an official transcript, an initial determination of transfer equivalence will be made. However, when it is unclear what the appropriate course equivalent is, the Admission Office awards only elective credit. A review of the course (via syllabus, text and work performed) can then be requested by the student at the appropriate department. Review of undergraduate Computer Science credits can be conducted by the undergraduate advisors in Computer Science.

Transfer Guide for VCCS

The Office of Admissions has launched an on-line tool for use as a "transfer guide" that is available from the front page of LEO ONLINE. Called "Monarch Transfermation," this system pulls the course equivalencies for all courses already evaluated for transfer to Old Dominion from the Banner system. The system sorts the information by state, then school, then subject.

Note: Students with military courses should choose District of Columbia as the state.

If the courses to be transfered are not listed on the "Monarch Transfermation" page, please send the descriptions of those courses to CDA Janet Brunelle for review. brunelle@cs.odu.edu. The CDA can evaluate Computer Science courses only. Any evaluated course equivalency will be recorded by the University in Transfermation.

Evaluations of non-CS courses should be directed to Sharon Melone in the Dean's Office.

Additionally, the transfer equivalencies accepted for Lower Division General Education courses from the Virginia Community College System are printed on page 342-343 of the 2004-06 University Catalog.
