  • Oct. 30, 2006 -- Ringtone Creation and the GCD
Creating a sprint ringtone is actually very simple, if you understand a few key things. The first of these things, is adding a '.htaccess' file to the directory of your .gcd files (we will talk about that later on) that containes MIME types that you will need.
Please note that you can use select-all in these text areas

As you might have noticed, the first line defines the MIME type for a GCD. GCDs, or "Generic Content Descriptors" are unique to Sprint, and are basically files used to point to data (Like the music for the ringtone), and describe it for the phone. A standard GCD for a ringtone looks something like this:

If I had some music file called 'SparcSong.mid' that I wanted to make into a ringtone, first I would create the '.htaccess' file as detailed above.
Second, I would create a 'SparcSong.gcd' file to point to and describe the 'SparcSong.mid'. Remember that the 'SparcSong.mid' also has to be in web space, as the This file does not have to be the same name of the music file, however it will be for this example. my 'SparcSong.gcd' would look something like this:

Third, you would navigate to your .gcd file with your Sprint PCS phone, and Install!

In finale, if you have any issues; you should see that your relevant directory structure looks something like this:
    (compare to 'SparcSong.gcd' as above)
