DiriPark

DiriPark is a parking guidance system that directs patrons to available spaces in a garage.

DiriPark is brought to you by Red Team '09, a group of six individuals in Janet Brunelle's CS 410 Spring 2009 Professional Workforce Development class at Old Dominion University. We are committed to rational solutions to real-world problems.

Motivation

A parking facility is a customer's first and last contact with a business. Available spaces in a garage are difficult to find because their location is not apparent from the entrance. Drivers then circle around floors and contribute to congestion.

The act of parking should be effortless and nonintrusive, as frustration during this process will affect the customer's satisfaction with the overall experience. Patrons wish to get in, get out, and carry on with their activities.

Operation

DiriPark uses sensors to track the availability of every parking space. Patrons are informed of available parking spaces as they enter a parking facility.

At intersections in the garage, additional display boards will recommend directions to adjacent spaces. These are not enforced, and patrons are free to follow the recommendations, or park at a space of their preference.
