Problem Statement

There are many appliances that aren’t worth outright buying and end up being used only a few times a year i.e.(pressure washer). They also end up becoming a pain to store. What we are addressing is two problems:

1. People who need an item i.e. (a power washer or a leaf blower), but don’t need to, don’t want to, or can’t buy one outright
2. People who have an item, don’t want to permanently sell it off, but desire a way to turn unused possessions into passive income.

Problem Characteristics

• The appliance/product is too expensive
• Household appliances are difficult to store
• Appliances like a pressure washer are only used once or twice a year
• It’s inconvenient to find a store to rent from

Solution Statement

Shared Goods is a service that will offer consumers the opportunity to rent out items they don’t need and in turn rent items they do need. This application will allow for a more competitive renting market and become a way to generate income.

Solution Characteristics

• An item can be rented through the Shared Goods Website for a lower price than buying the item and more convenient to access
• If the item is being rented, then there is no reason to worry about long term storage
• Lending out your rarely used items will make use of them when you don’t need them and will generate passive income

This application will not:

• Directly rent items out to customers
• Handle purchasing/selling of items
• Handle the payment process
• Store the item to be rented
• Send middlemen to ensure the transaction occurs as agreed upon
