Interview with Dr. Catesby Ware
- regarding our method of sleep detection (wrist activity)
Our solution to the problem saves a lot of time money and time. This device will alert a student, worker, patron when they are getting ready to fall asleep. In the first stage before sleep the heart rate will decrease slightly. Our sleep detection device monitors wrist activity and drop in heart rate by comparing the normal rate to an increase or decrease. If it detects a prolonged absence of wrist activity, along the slightest decrease in the heart rate, this means sleep is approaching and someone needs a wake-up call. The user will have the option of setting the alarm to either vibrate or emit an audible warning.
The features of this device will be that of a watch. Using digits, a user can use this device not only to prevent sleep, but also to tell time. A request for an additional feature of a pulse monitor has also been mentioned. Similar to watches, this device can contain the simplest features (for a low cost) to anything complex that we decide to add on like a calculator, or an address book for a bit more money.
