VoiCE (Voice
Controlled Entry) is an ODU
Computer Productivity Initiative project
that will research safe and secure keyless
access to homes through the existing doors
by using human voice.
The disabled and the elderly often do not
have the motor skills needed to use keyed
doors. Fitting keys into locks requires hand
and eye coordination that most of us take for
granted. This situation gets more complicated
when using wheel chairs, carts, walkers, crutches
and other devices. Special fitted door handles and
automatic doors have made this process easier in
recent years, but, these devices fall short of
providing the secure access that is necessary for a
home entrance.
VoiCE will provide secure, safe, reliable, keyless
access to the disabled and elderly at reasonable costs. |
