This is a group presentation of each group's selected course project topic with clearly defined objectives. A simple one line description of the societal problem to be solved should be the presentation introduction. For convenience the current names for the projects are included at the end of this requirement document.
This presentation is a formal presentation (slides, charts, audio, and video) with presenters in suitable attire. The group will designate the primary group presenter. It is anticipated that the groups will complete their presentations during the Tuesday class and perhaps slightly into the recitation time.
The main foci of this presentation of the project topic is the set of project objectives (in detail) and the arguments necessary to convince the audience that this overall topic is feasible; all factors considered. General factors of technical issues, management methods, societal concerns, and resource requirements should be discussed. A research objective may be judged feasible if:
The presentation must concentrate on the what to do and not the how to do it nor the equipment or resources to do it . While it may seem easy to write a single statement for each group's exact functional objective, it is likely that such a statement would be at best a very general objective. The presentation must include the elementary objectives, the fundamental characteristics that are necessary in order to solve the problem. Some of these characteristics or elements will clearly be almost totally technical but others will likely contain more significant social and practical issues with little technical components.
The presentation must as well identify the critical what not to do components of each of the group's recommended projects. These components are the related portions of the project topic that will not be accomplished by the group. These components are typically difficult to develop, but often times are more useful than the "what to do" issues.
It is expected that each presentation may well require the 15 minutes (maximum) of platform presentation with some additional time required for clarification questions. It is expected that the audience will likely question everything presented in relation to the feasibility issue. Copies of all presentation materials should be provided for course record keeping purposes. A WWW information page (WWW address) that contains the complete set of presentation materials will suffice for this requirement.
Grading of this presentation will be based upon several factors: the presentation content (critical), the format of the presentation, the platform presence of the prime and auxiliary presenters, and the overall quality of the arguments provided by the speakers to convince the class that the topic as defined is feasible and should continue to be pursued as a class project.
A grading sheet will be provided for reference purposes. The group members will be required to provide evaluations of performance. The evaluation format for each of these efforts will be provided shortly.
