The Resource Monitoring System will:
- Monitor and collect water consumption data
from homes
in order to make an accurate estimate on the level of effluent going
to the septic system.
- Warn the user if the current water use will exceed
their septic system's capacity
- Calculate and provide daily, weekly, and monthly averages of
water consumption
- Have an intuitive user interface.
- Use multiple water meters to improve accuracy and pinpoint
trouble spots
- Provide a means to make this technology affordable
for the individual home/business owner
- Be easy and cost effective to install.
- Use commercial, off-the-shelf hardware and existing infrastructure
as much as possible
- Be sold to contractors to reduce installation costs
The Resource Monitoring System will not:
- Automatically adjust a user’s water
flow as means of controlling resource usage
- Measure the flow of wastewater from the house to the septic system,
but will calculate an estimate of
the wastewater going to the septic system based on the amount
of intake water to the household.
- Force or mandate societal smart resource usage, RMS is
just an informational tool
- Make a user’s consumption information publicly available
- Be completely immune from problems associated with power
outages, lightning strikes, tampering, vandalism, and acts
of God
- Monitor every individual water faucet/outlet in the house or building
- Be responsible for actions taken by the user in response
to suggestions provided by the RMS system
- Continue to be accurate if regular septic tank pumping is not performed
(usually once every 5 years maximum)
