(This site gives information on installing SOLARISTM7 from a local CDROM drive only)

The installation process can divided into three steps -

Pre-installation tasks

To start we need to collect some information about the hardware and ....... (to be completed)
 
 

Hardware requirements
Platforms
SPARCstationTMseries :
SS1, 1+, 2 SLCTM, ELCTM, IPCTM and IPXTM.

SPARCserverTM series :
600MP, SS5, SS10, SS20, Classic, LX, Voyager, Ultra, 1000MP and 2000MP.

SPARCengine® series :
SPARCengine1e.

Memory 
32 megabytes of disc memory
Drives
CD-ROM (external or built in)
Data Connectivity
Needed, ethernet connections preferrably.
Supported disc types
SCSI and IPI
Hard Drive
2GB(min) or 4GB(recommended)

You are now ready to begin the installion process.  (It takes about 1.5 hours to install the operating system)
Installation

After installing the Solaris 7 operating system you have to set up DNS, NIS+, NFS,sendmail and other packages as required.
Post-installation tasks

Congratulations! You did it.  Since you enjoy the privilege of being the administrator of your system, here are some helpful hints on good housekeeping.
