May 2009 The courses and learned information required by GIS certificate program allowed me to explore the (topics of the field) and to develop skills that contribute to and build on the fundamental base of Geographic Information Systems. Being certified in Geographic Information Systems establishes a level of understanding essential to being able to operate under conditions and scenarios that present in the problem solving and solution process. The courses and learned information required by the SPACE certificate program, allowed me to explore the (topics of the field) and to develop skills that contribute to and build on the fundamental base of Spatial Analysis. Being certified in Spatial Analysis of Coastal Environments establishes a level of understanding essential to being able to operate under conditions and scenarios that present in the problem solving and solution process. CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)/Lifeguard Possessing the skills necessary to attain CPR and Lifeguard certification ensure that the candidate can swim and maneuver efficiently enough to perform rescues using lifesaving methods. Taking advantage of the small window of opportunity in a critical moment when someone is not breathing requires very specific attention and timed precision. A very few decisive seconds of proper procedure could prevent more severe damage to a victims brain and overall state. I also learned to have a better awareness for potential water hazards and application of preferred professional techniques. This job helped me to think and respond quickly to situations and scenarios through continuous practice and preparation and regularly enforcing these learned skills. Emergency Oxygen Being equipped with the knowledge of administering emergency oxygen is a necessary requirement of being a lifeguard. While getting this certification it gave me experience and examples on how to use a resuscitation mask and bag-valve mask to provide oxygen. After an injury or accident if a person is not breathing as a lifeguard one must know the procedures on how to successful conduct the giving of emergency oxygen. Though trained, I never used emergency oxygen on the job, but was well prepared by the frequent training and meetings that were given on a regular basis. AED(Automated External Defibrillator) As a lifeguard I was certified to use the AED through the American Red Cross. The process of learning how to effectively use the Automated External Defibrillator is one of great importance. By being certified in this, it increases the chances of survival for victims of cardiac arrest. It is designed to be used without hesitation, as it can mean the difference in saving the life of a person who may not get help from medical professionals in time. |
