Residency Requirement

Ph.D. students should normally be full-time. Students who wish to pursue a part of their doctoral study on a part-time basis may do so, but must satisfy the following requirements:

Students must spend at least two semesters (preferably consecutively) after passing the diagnostic exam at ODU or at an approved off-campus facilities engaged in full-time graduate study, unencumbered by the demands of outside employment. Approval by the research guidance committee, the graduate program director and the school dean is required if the student wishes to spend the two semesters outside ODU.
  2. Upon recommendation of the research guidance committee and approval by the graduate program director and school dean, a student may be permitted to carry on work in connection with the dissertation in absentia.
