Provisional Admission/Pre-Requisites

Computer Information Systems Emphasis

The program is intended for students with either undergraduate degrees in computer science or information systems. On completion of the master's curriculum, a student will have an in-depth background in both the development of large software systems, management and administration of such systems and specialized knowledge in such areas as software project management and effective use of computers to increase productivity in business and industry.

Students entering the computer information sciences option should have a demonstrated background in C++, software engineering, data structures, discrete mathematics, microeconomics, management, accounting, quantitative methods and finance. The aptitude test of the GRE or GMAT is also required.

An undergraduate degree in an CSAB-accredited computer science program and a minor in information systems is an ideal preparation for the program. An AACSB accredited information systems undergraduate degree with a minor in computer science is equally as good. Students with degree in either computer science or information systems should be able to enter the program with few deficits (typically no more than five courses) and are encouraged to apply.

Students who have deficiencies in these areas can enter the program as provisional students and make up their deficiencies by taking the following courses and receiving B or better grade in each of them:

For students with a BSBA Information Systems:

  1. CS 150 Introduction to Programming with C++>
  2. CS 170 Computer Organization and Architecture
  3. CS 250 Problem Solving and Programming*
  4. CS 350 Introduction to Software Engineering
  5. CS 361 Data Structures
  6. STAT 330 Intro to Probability and Statistics
  7. CS 281 Introduction to Discrete Structures

For students with a BS Computer Science:

  1. ACCT 601 Fundamentals of Accounting
  2. MGMT 602 Organizational Management
  3. ISYS 361 Information System Planning and Analysis
  4. ISYS 410 Computer-Based Decision Models with SAS

Note Although the prerequisites ACCT 601 and MGMT 602 are taught at the graduate level they can not be applied to this joint program.

* CS333 can be substituted for CS250
CS333 is internet based courses
