Title: Media content processing for service delivery Speaker: Omid E. Kia National Institute of Standards and Technology Advanced Network Technologies Division Multimedia and Digital Video Technologies Group Abstract: Multimedia content delivery requires technology in many areas including, but not limited to, information processing, data handling and media understanding. Being able to provide the necessary information in a desirable format and in a timely manner is the baseline requirement. To do this effectively, one must understand the usable information contained within the media content and be able to manage that information across various representation, presentation, and delivery paradigms. In this talk I will first discuss work done in document image compression and analysis. I will show how pertinent information within a document image can be used to address various image processing and handling problems. I will continue to motivate that such a data organization method is possible across all media types and is driven by their processing requirement. Extension of this concept is taken to multimedia documents where document structure is exploited and multimedia services where content is exploited. Multimedia document handling is discussed along with media scaling for various service scenarios. Eventually, it is foreseen that an infrastructure is desirable where the service network provides the processing capability while content is being routed to a customer.
