Spring 2008
Lab Instructor and Grader Positions

There will be several Grader/Lab Instructor positions in the department this Spring. These positions pay between $2500 and $5000 (depending on duties and status) and enable the recipient to receive a tuition waiver on some (M.S. Students) or all (Ph.D. Students) of their tuition. The waiver will be good for at least 6 hours and possibly more depending on the department tuition-waiver budget and University policies at the time.

Recipients are expected to be on campus, ready to assume their duties by Saturday, January 12, 2007.

Recipients of Lab Instructor positions who have not been certified as completing the GTA course must be on campus in time to take the course. That date has not yet been set but will probably be the first week of January. Check with the Graduate Program Director about signing up.

The SPEAK test is a prerequisite for the GTA course. It is generally given shortly before the GTA course and near the end of each semester. Check with the English Language Center in Hughes Hall about signing up.

Recipients who arrive late may find their awards reduced or recinded. Lab instructors will not be employed unless they have passed both the SPEAK test and been certified as completing the GTA training. Graders must have completed the SPEAK test.

Preference will be given to students who have taught laboratory sections or graded for this department in Fall 2007 and given satisfactory performance. If there are still positions remaining, preference will be given to students who have passed the SPEAK test and/or completed the GTA training. Students with high grade point averages will be given preference over those with low.

Applications Close November 6, 2007 Midnight.
The application deadline has passed.

Since a lack of budgetary information as well as other uncertainties, make it difficult to predict how many positions we have, notification of awards will extend from November 20 through January 10.
