Course Objectives and Topics

 

This course is part of the two semester sequence CS 170/270 using the same text book.  These courses emphasize computer hardware, the hardware software interface, and the importance of performance.  The successful student will master the fundamentals of architecture and organization used in modern computers. 

Fundamentals covered in this course include gate level logic and circuit design, computer arithmetic, and internal data representations as well as machine language, assembler language, performance metrics and Amdahl’s law.  We will cover sections of the first four chapters of the text, appendix B, plus additional material added by the instructor.

Attendance: You are not required to attend. You are responsible for the materials covered in class. In the case of an excused absence, I will attempt to help you make up the material. You are responsible for the lectures, reading assignments and homework.   If you miss a class without an acceptable excuse please do not ask the instructor what was covered.

2-     Meeting out of the office hours: Send me an E-Mail to schedule an appointment according to the best time for you and me.

3-     No Late assignments. (The assignment solution will be posted after the assignment due date/time).

Quizzes (Optional-%10)

There will be a weekly quiz (usually on Thursday). The quiz will be in the course materials covered in this week.

The purpose of the quiz: HELP YOU.!!!!

If you solve it, the points you gain out of it will be BOUNS for you to enhance your final grade.

If you do not solve it, just keep the quiz questions for your record to get familiar with the questions you may find in the any of the three tests or the final.
