interactive Body Of Water Simulator

iBOWS Overview

Research Area
This project aims to provide an intuitive and interactive interface to robust numerical models that represent bodies of water. The resulting program allows users to interactively vary river flow and wind conditions in the distinct body of water and visualize the results. The working title for the project is the interactive Body of Water Simulator or iBOWS.

Goals
The main goal of this research is to extend upon the Chesapeake Bay Interactive Model, created by the ODU Department of Oceanography and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC), to include additional interactive features and a variety of new and customizable models.  The Great Lakes are included in the set of target models.

Methods
The Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be created using the open source cross platform C++ GUI toolkit, Fast Light Toolkit (www.fltk.org).

The 3 dimensional graphics will be created using the open source high performance 3D graphics toolkit, OpenSceneGraph (www.openscenegraph.org).
