    Master of Science Requirements (Course-only Option)

    A minimum of 34 credit hours are required, including 33 credits of course work and one credit of colloquium. The candidate is required to past Exit Comprehensive Examination.

    Core course work requirements:
    • CS550 Database Concepts        
    • CS555 Networks and Communictions        
    • CS665 Computer Architecture        
    • CS600 Algorithms and Data Structures        
    Other MS course restrictions and requirements:
    • 1 At most 4- 500 level courses can count towards MS        
    • 2At most 3- courses of any combo of CS 597/697, 791/891,& 796/896    
    • 3At least 1 course taken at 700-level other than CS 791 and 796        
    • Colloquium (CS 690): must attend at least 10 colloquiums        
    • GPA of 3.00 is required for graduation        
    Courses that count towards Masters (33 credits):
    • CS550, CS555, CS518, CS595 (12 credits)     per req1
    • CS665, CS600   (6 credits)     core classes
    • CS791(spr08), CS697(sum08), CS697(fall08) (9 credits)     per req2

    PhD Requirements

    A candidate for the doctoral degree in computer science must meet all of the following requirements in addition to the University requirements outlined under the Academic Information section in this Catalog.

    Requirements:
    • Official PhD requirements
    • Pass PhD Qualifying Process
    • Pass PhD Candidacy Examination (dissertation topic and research proposal)
    • Minimum of 27 credit hours beyond the MS degree        
      • 4 no more then 9 hrs from 500/600 level   This requirement has changed
      • at least 18 hrs must be from CS 800 level courses
        • 5 at least 12 credits from adv. classes w/exams (not topics/seminar)
          • 6 from 3 different falculty members
    • Colloquium (CS690): must attend at least 20 colloquiums
    • 24 credit hours of dissertation work
    • Dissertation Defense
