This paper is one of the first to introduce the SODA (Smart Objects, Dumb
Archives) concept. Although this paper pre-dates the OAI, many of the
concepts should appear similiar (esp. Fig. 1). Compare this paper

This paper gives a good review of the state of buckets and some of
the services defined on buckets. It mentions SODA only in passing,
but rather than assign an overlapping reading, we will cover that more
in class. Please take the time to try to run the QuickTime demos
in the appendices.
