In-Class Work 6 (ICW6)

See http://www.cs.odu.edu/~mweigle/CS725-S17/Guidelines for general information on ICW assignments.

Special for ICW6: Each student must submit their own in-class assignment for ICW6. You may talk with your classmates about the questions, but everyone must submit their own answers (in their own words).

Classify the following colormaps as categorical or ordered. For ordered colormaps, further classify them as sequential or diverging. For sequential colormaps, further classify them as single-hue or multi-hue.

For each of the colormaps, give an example of a data attribute that would be appropriate. Your example should be an actual data field and its data type. Add additional explanation as needed to make the case this data would map to the colormap. (For your examples, you might want to think about data mapped onto a choropleth chart, since it is common to use color as a channel in those charts.)

Here's an example: A categorical colormap could be used to show the different breeds of dogs in a pie chart. This matches because breed of dog is a categorical attribute and is appropriate for a categorical colormap.
