In-Class Work 7 (ICW7)

See http://www.cs.odu.edu/~mweigle/CS725-S17/Guidelines for general information on ICW assignments.

Special for ICW7: Work in your project groups.

Task

Think about your current plans for your project and consider the different ways to manipulate the view that we discussed today:

  • sorting
  • animated transition
  • selection
  • highlighting
  • panning
  • geometric zooming
  • semantic zooming

Take one of the charts you plan to implement for your project and discuss how you will allow the user to manipulate the view. You must also justify why manipulating the view is necessary or adds to the user's ability to understand the presented information.

  • For selection, make sure that you discuss each of the 3 design choices covered in class (what can be a selection target, number of selection types, number of elements in selection set).

Note that this type of design decision justification and explanation is part of what I expect to see in your final paper.

During the last 10 minutes of class time, be prepared to talk about what you have discussed. If you are working alone, feel free to discuss options and ideas with other groups.

Submission

One member of your project group must submit your write-up in Blackboard (under 'Other Submissions') before our next class meeting on March 29.
