CS795-F10: Program 2 - Range Testing

Assigned: Thursday, Sep 30, 2010
Due: Tuesday, Oct 19, 2010 before midnight

Description

Setup an experiment to test the range that data can be received with various transmission rates and fading models.

Use Two-Ray Ground (TRG) as the baseline to determine range vs. power. Then, use power settings for TRG for {100, 150, 200, 250, 300} meters and perform the range testing with Lognormal Shadowing LogDistance, Rayleigh, and Nakagami fading models. (Updated 10/14/10 - MCW)

Make sure to double-check wireless parameter settings in order to use IEEE 802.11p defaults (see (bingmann-ms09) Table 2.4), including the 6 Mbps data rate. Note that DSRC/IEEE 802.11p uses OFDM 5 GHz with 10 MHz channels.

You may want to consult (bingmann-ms09) for information on fading in ns-3 and (torrent-moreno-mswim06) for information on fading models and expected results.

Create a report using LaTeX and the IEEE template. The report must include a description of the experiments, the power settings used, a description of any networking parameter settings used, the expected results, how the results either met or didn't meet your expectations, the graphs, and an explanation of the graphs. The graphs should show the PDR (probability of data reception) vs. distance at various power levels and using the different fading models.
