CALL FOR PAPERS

Minitrack on

Wireless Sensor Networks

Part of the SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY TRACK

39-th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences

HICSS-39

Hyatt Recency, Kaua'i, Hawaii, January 4 - 7, 2006

SCOPE: Developments in computing and sensing hardware and in wireless communications have made it both technologically feasible and economically viable to develop low-power sensor nodes that integrate general-purpose computing with multi-purpose sensing and wireless communications capabilities. Aggregating sensor nodes into sophisticated sensing, computational and communication infrastructures to form wireless sensor networks will have a significant impact on a wide array of applications ranging from military, to scientific, to industrial, to health-care, to domestic, establishing ubiquitous computing that will pervade society redefining the way in which we live and work. This minitrack focuses on fundamental challenges arising in the design of wireless sensor networks. Our goal is to offer a forum for high caliber research and experimentation in this booming area. We will provide the participants with an up-to-date survey on wireless sensor networks and applications. Individual sensor nodes have a small power supply and, once deployed, must work unattended. For most applications we envision a massive deployment of sensor nodes, perhaps in the thousands or tens of thousands, with network diameters in the hundreds or thousands of hops. Aggregating sensor nodes into sophisticated sensing, computational and communication infrastructures to form wireless sensor networks (WSN, for short) will have a significant impact on a wide array of applications ranging from military, to scientific, to industrial, to health-care, to domestic, establishing ubiquitous wireless sensor networks that will pervade society redefining the way in which we live and work. The goal of this minitrack is to provide a cross-disciplinary forum for researchers in both academia and industry addressing the rich space of WSN system design issues to interact and exchange recent results. Topics include but are not limited to the following:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER SUBMISSION

Paper submission is in two steps. In the first step, authors submit a 300-word abstract (by April 15, 2005) to the Minitrack co-chairs for guidance and indication of appropriate content. In the second step, authors submit the full paper (by June 15, 2005). For full paper preparation and submission, authors must follow the instructions available on the web site. Papers should contain original material and not be previously published, or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. At least one author of each accepted paper must register to attend the conference.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

April 15, 2005  Preliminary abstract submission
June 15, 2005  Full paper submission
August 15, 2005  Acceptance/rejection notification
September 15, 2005   Final version submission.

NOTE: Because HICSS is a nonprofit activity funded entirely by registration fees, all participants and speakers are expected to have their university/organization bear the costs of their expenses and registration. HICSS is not able to subsidize registrations or offer reduced fees.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER SUBMISSION

1. Contact one of the Minitrack Co-Chairs in advance for specific submission instructions. Otherwise, submit six (6) copies of the full paper, consisting of 22-26 double-spaced pages, including diagrams, directly to one of the Minitrack Co-Chairs. (NOTE: The final paper will be 10 pages, double-column, single-spaced.)

2. Do not submit the manuscript to more than one Minitrack Chair. Papers should contain original material and not be previously published, or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere.

3. Each paper must have a title page to include title of the paper, full name of all authors, and complete addresses including affiliation(s), telephone number(s), and e-mail address(es).
