Lecture 3 hours: 3 credits.
Prerequisites: CS 471.
This course will introduce the students
to fundemental and essential tasks involved in installation and
administration of UNIX systems and local are networks. System administration
strategies and procedures will be discussed. Topics discussed will include:
UNIX filesystems, startup & shutdown, account management, security, backups,
modems and printers, and UNIX accounting. Under network administration we
will cover name server concepts, overview of TCP/IP, routing, domain name
service, troubleshooting TCP/IP, and network security. Studenst will be
required to install a UNIX system and configure it in a network environment.
