The Admissions Process

Admission to the University is granted under degree or non-degree status. To be admitted in a regular degree-seeking status, an applicant must satisfy requirements as specified in the catalog for the program of interest. Those who do not meet requirements for regular admission may be accepted on a provisional basis, subject to conditions specified by the GPD.

It is the responsibility of the GPD to:

  • Make admit/reject decisions consistent with established admissions criteria and standards
  • Render decisions on student requests to change major or program of study
  • Complete on-line checklists with admission decisions and submit to the Office of Admissions
  • Retain student files
  • Determine graduate credits that will transfer to the degree program and notify the Office of Student Records of those credits to be entered in the student records
  • Send the award letter for assistantships/tuition exemptions to the Office of International Admissions (OIA). The immigration document cannot be issued without this information because the exact amount of funding must be listed on the immigration document. It is necessary to supply this information as soon as possible to OIA in order for the immigration document to be issued.

The Office of Admission, Section of International Programs will:

  • Receive admission decisions from the GPDs
  • Prepare and mail accept/denial letters to the students
  • Clear international students for the purpose of processing I-20 forms
  • Receive admission decisions for international applicants from the GPDs
  • Prepare and mail accept/denial letters to the students and mail I-20 forms to admitted students
  • Enforce the English Language Proficiency requirements as outlined in the catalog. These requirements may not be waived by faculty.
  • Assist students with immigration matters throughout enrollment

The Office of Financial Aid will:

  • Process all graduate applications for Guaranteed Student Loans, National Direct Student Loans, College Work Study Program and other loan programs
  • Monitor financial aid recipients for compliance with university, state and federal regulations

The University Registrar will:

  • Post transfer credit evaluations to student records
