Graduate Faculty Certification

All faculty assigned to teach courses offered for graduate credit, serve on graduate committees or direct graduate student research must be certified according to provisions of the Old Dominion University Faculty Handbook. The policy in the Handbook gives the general requirement for certification. The College of Sciences Minimum Graduate Teaching Certification Standards are given in Appendix I. The GPD and departmental chair are responsible for submitting and maintaining graduate faculty certification for their department. A department may have a certification policy that is more stringent than the College policy but may not adopt a policy with lesser requirements than those of the College. The policy includes all full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty, including those that may be certified only for teaching specific graduate courses. The usual period of certification is five years but initial and emergency appointments may be made for different periods of time.
