Name Date Address Address Dear , I am pleased to offer you a Dominion Graduate Scholar award in the Ph.D. Program in -------------- in the Department of --------------------------- for the 200X-0Y Academic Year. The stipend is $18,000 for a 12-month period beginning August 15, 200X, and full tuition payment is also included in addition to your stipend. During your first 30 credit hours of graduate work, as a Dominion Graduate Scholar, you must be enrolled for at least 6 graduate credits during each Fall and Spring semester, and at least 3 graduate credits during the Summer semester. You must maintain a 3.00 or higher grade point average and maintain satisfactory performance in any teaching or research activities in which you participate. Assuming satisfactory performance, the Department of ----------------------- will maintain your financial award for a total of four years. Financial support for a fifth year of studies may be negotiated with your department. Old Dominion University adheres to the "Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants" of the Council of Graduate Schools of the United States. Please read the enclosed copy of this resolution to make yourself aware of your responsibilities. Students that receive financial aid from Old Dominion University should not hold a job outside of the University. Any additional financial support needs prior approval of both the Department and Dean of the College of Sciences. You will discuss your departmental assignment with the Graduate Program Director on or before your arrival. If you are to be given teaching assignments, you will need to attend the University Graduate Teaching Institute held in August of this year. You will be notified in a separate letter if you need to attend the Teaching Institute. Congratulations on receiving this newly created prestigious award in the College of Sciences. I look forward to receiving your formal acceptance of the Dominion Graduate Scholar award by your completion and return of the enclosed form. If your acceptance is not received by April 1, 2007 the end of the business day on April 1, this offer will be withdrawn and made to another qualified student.
