Practical Training for International (F-1) Students

Paid internships for F-1 students who are attending school full time may be allowed under regulations for "Curricular Practical Training." Students in F-1 status may also receive up to 1 year of "Optional Practical Training." This training may be taken during summer vacation periods, in the time period between completing all coursework for a graduate degree and finishing a thesis or dissertation, or after receiving the degree. Only a one-year total of optional training is allowed. Students should seek information on requirements through the Office of International Programs. General information is located in Appendix E.
