Exercise Level
Individuals who do not exercise usually have a faster heart rate and a smaller capillary network than people who do exercise regularly. A greater network of capillaries allows for more efficient transfer of oxygen to the cells. Physically active individuals who follow a regular plan of aerobic exercise (walking, running, cycling, swimming, or aerobic dance) suffer fewer heart attacks than people who do not exercise. A program of regular exercise strengthens the heart and blood vessels. It also increases the ability of the heart and blood vessels to circulate blood efficiently.
