Old Messages
- Class Roster has been update to January 23
- You need to contact me if you are still having trouble with your
accounts
- To view the results of a graded quiz - go to
"Profiles/Portfolio" from the main "Learning
Space" page. The correct answers are also available there.
- Default password for UNIX and Learning Space is the first two
letters of your last name following by your student ID.
- Learning space account to take the quizzes are set up for all
registered students who have signed up for a UNIX account.
NOTE: on some computers the following message appears
Just ignore this message by selecting the "No" button - you
may have to do this several times but your quiz submission should be OK
- Slides for the orientation meeting are here.
Also go through introductory material here
- Class Roster is current as of Thursday
January 7
- Orientation meeting for Spring 2004 will be Sunday January 11 at
high noon.
I will be broadcasting from the main ODU campus GORNTO room 201.
You may attend any convenient TELTECHNET site that is carrying the
broadcast (call to confirm).
Students from the previous semester with incompletes may also attend.
Assignments 8 and 9 have been posted
- Assignments 6 and 7 have been posted
- Assignment 5 is now posted
- Your personal progress page now includes percentage completion in
the course and current grade.
NOTE: your current grade is the grade you have earned to date. If you
got an "A" on the first quiz and that is all you have done,
your current grade for the quizzes would be a D-. That is because you
still have 6 other quizzes to take. The same is true with the assignments,
Full credit on the first three assignments gives you 33% complete (3
out of 9), which is a F if you don't complete any more assignments.
Remember the grade goes up as you complete more work successfully.
- Assignments 3 and 4 have been posted - Also Quizzes on chapters 7
and 5
- At least one student found that a personal firewall was causing
problems with learning space and had to be shut down when taking the
quizzes - I will try to find out more about other less drastic
remedies.
- Sometimes you will get the following error dialog accessing learning
space
Select the "No" button - You may receive several of these at
one time - select "No" for all. It should not affect your
ability to take the quizzes.
- Depending on which version of visual c++ you have, some of the
features needed later in the course may not work. You can receive a
free update from the following site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q192539
- You need two accounts to use this course - a UNIX account and a
LOTUS account.
Since new account are created using the same userID and password, many
students are unaware that these is a difference.
However students who have existing UNIX accounts may find that the
password for the LOTUS account is different.
Your userId for the course is the same as your UNIX mail name (see the
Class Roster page).
The default password is the first two letters of your last name
followed by your student ID (probably your social security number).
- Assignment 2 has been posted
- Send e-mail to the systems group (root@cs.odu.edu
) if you are having trouble logging into your accounts. PLEASE
TAKE THE WELCOME QUIZ - it will help assess if there are problems with
your account.
- Several students discovered and reported broken links which
hopefully have been fixed (at least most of them).
Please report any new failures to cs333@cs.odu.edu.
- All Prerequisite and first regular assignments are posted
- Slides for Orientation Meeting
- Orientation session Friday Aug 22 6:30-7:15PM - Broadcast from the
Penisula Graduate Center

one at which you registered, check with the site to verify reception).
