Grades for the Fall 2002 semester have been posted on LEO. To clarify the grading reported on your personal progress page: Your grade depends on four things - assignments (30%), quizzes (30%), Final Project (20%) and Final Exam (20%). Your personal progress page reports the percentage completion is each of these areas and your current grade in that area. Thus if you have finished 4 out of 7 quizzes with all "A"s, then your quiz completion percent is 4/7 or about 57% with a grade of (4.0 + 4.0 + 4.0 + 4.0)/7 or 2.29 which is a C+. Obviously if you finish the last three quizzes with an A you will get an "A" for your quiz grade. There are 10 assignments which are not given a letter grade individually but a scored on a percentage basis (95-100% = A+, 91-95% A, 88-91% A-, 85-88 B+, etc). In addition to the grades for each of the four areas, you will have an overall grade computed. This is the grade you will get if you do NO ADDITIONAL WORK - For those with incompletes, it is the grade that you will get in May if you do no further work. Since the final exam and project are worth 40% of the overall grade and since most of you have not finished these yet, your current grade is likely to be low (for example all "A"s for the quizzes and assignments would only be 4.0*60% = 2.4 = C+). I report your current grade earned not to discourage you but for a reality check. This is a four credit course and I expect that to complete it in one semester, you will need to devote 4credits * 2 to 3 hours = 8 to 12 hours per week to it. The key to successful completion is steady work and progress. Contact me if you need further clarification of your status.
Asssignment 9 (the last assignment) is now ready (25NOV)
Policy on incompletes is available here.
New method of reporting grades is being used on the personal progress pages.

NOTE: Quiz 1 has been rescored and a revised version made available - basically all the the true/false questions are reduced in value. If you are using Blackboard - please use the revised version. If you have already taken the first version, your score will be changed to reflect the new question weightings. Sorry about the confusion but I am still figuring out how to use blackboard.
No doubt some of you are having trouble with your accounts - it seems no matter how well we try it takes several weeks to work through account problems - the important points are - bring account problems to my attention (see mail link at bottom) AND work on the material - you can start on the assignment and do the reading and self exercises at the back of chapters. Don't be passive - be pro-active
Assignment 2 is now available
Examples for the fourth edition of the book are now available on the web site (see link above)
The web site for the book which contains additional information (including source code) is available here.
NOTE: Grades on quizzes are not "official" until I review the grade assigned and enter the grade into your personal page. Automatic grading is too simple to handle all possible legal answers.
