Office Hours: Prof. Steven Zeil
Meetings are available via Office, Phone, or Hangouts (network conferencing).
Times shown are in Eastern time.
If you are using this for the first time, please
read the instructions below the
calendar before proceeding.
If none of the listed times are possible for you, contact me to
make an appointment outside my regular office hours.
Instructions
-
Log in to any Google service (e.g., ODU student email
or your own
calendar) with your @odu.edu credentials.
- If you are logged in to Google with a personal account, you may leed to log out of that first.
-
Select a time slot when you wich to meet with me and click on it.
-
A "Book an appointment" box will pop up. In the "Where" line, delete
all except your chosen meeting mode (see "Meeting Modes", below).
-
Click "Save". You will receive a preliminary confirmation by email, and
the appointment will also appear in your own Google calendar.
- If you have requested a meeting via network conferencing, you
will receive an update (by email and in your calendar) on the day of
the meeting that adds a video link to use for the conference.
You must choose a meeting mode when you schedule a meeting.
Not all options are available during all time slots, as I often
offer "office hours" on days and times when I am not on campus.
Meeting Modes
My office hour slots are labeled with some combination of "O", "H",
and "P", denoting the possible meeting modes:
- O: Office: meet me face-to-face in my office,
E&CS 3208 on the Norfolk campus.
- H: Hangouts: meet me in a network call via Google
Hangouts
- You will need a microphone to speak to me. Webcam is
optional.
- You will need a speaker or headphones to hear
me. (Headphones are strongly recommended to avoid feedback
with your microphone.)
-
Note that, during a Hangouts video call (regardless of whether you
have a webcam or not), you can share your screen with me to show
me what you are working on.
-
This makes network conferencing a much easier way to get
answers about programming projects and other assignments
than normal phone calls.
If you select this option far enough in advance, I will respond
with an email containing a Join video call link that you
can click on to join me
in a conference at the appointed time.
- If you don't see that email, go to
your own Google calendar
(logging in with the same email address you used
to make the appointment), and look for the
invitation there.
If you do not receive that message, then
follow these
directions to place a video call directly to me at the
appointed time.
- P:
Phone -- Call me at 757 683-4928. I
don't recommend this option if you want to discuss programming
homework, as it's the only option that does not give you a way to
show me what work you have done.
