Project 2: HTML Resume

Assigned: Thursday, Oct 21, 2010
Due: Thursday, Oct 28, 2010 before midnight

The goal of this assignment is to create a resume in HTML, using the concepts that we've covered in class.

Create an online resume using HTML. Your page must have an appropriate title (specified in the <head> section of your HTML source), and you must incorporate bold, italics, headings, lists, and links (to your university or workplaces, for example). Use tables to create a nice layout for your resume. Here's an example layout.

If you do not want to include your actual information in your resume, feel free to make up something reasonable.

Setting Up

Here are the steps to get started:

  1. Create a directory (or folder) named cs312 under your ~/public_html/ directory in your CS Unix account.
  2. Create a new file named resume.html in the newly-created directory.
  3. Set permissions so that the files can be viewed by anyone:
    chmod 755 ~/public_html/cs312
    chmod 644 ~/public_html/cs312/resume.html

  • Edit your HTML page with a simple text editor (no Word or any other fancy tools allowed).
  • Remember to use tags that are acceptable for XHTML (all lowercase and include closing tags when required).
  • For full credit, your code must pass XHTML 1.0 Transitional validation.

Go to the Project 2 Submission page, and enter your name and the URL of your resume (should be http://www.cs.odu.edu/~username/cs312/resume.html).

  • Make sure that the URL works before you submit it.
  • Pressing the submit button will add a link to your resume to the Student Resume page along with a timestamp of your submission. Note that you will not be directed to the list of resumes, but to a page that says your submission was successful.
  • Only submit your URL once!
