Robotic vision can be categorized into two camps. The traditional approach used by NASA to develop robots for space structure construction is based on binocular stereovision using 2 separated cameras. A new approach being developed at MIT uses the model of a small highly focused field of view surrounded by a larger area of peripheral vision that primarily detects change (motion), which is used to direct the field of view.
