Taffia

For the brachiopod genus, see Taffia (brachiopod).

Taffia is a term humorously applied to groups of Welsh people who practice nepotism, or live in an ethnic enclave. The word is a portmanteau of Taff - a colloquialism for the people of South Wales - and Mafia.

The phrase is largely used in a non-abusive sense, as a joke by Welsh people themselves and others living in Wales, although some may find it offensive. As a consequence, migrants from Wales have taken the funny side of the argument and are trying to adopt it as a legitimate cultural identifier.

The Irish equivalent, Murphia, is less common.
