Incidental Skills
In CS 410 we discussed professionalism, collaboration, and presentation skills. In CS 411W we discuss writing skills, software development skills, and collaboration. However, we can not forget incidental skills. An incidental skill is anything you learn out of necessity to complete a task, e.g.,
- Setting up ZSH or Fish as your primary shell.
- Setting up the perfect combination of Vim plugins.
- Setting up Google Drive.
1 Microsoft Word Styles & Formatting
Many, if not most, students use Microsoft Word to write papers throughout their academic careers. Many people use Word in their professional lives. Too many people apply formatting manually in Word, unaware that there is a better way.
If you read through the CS example materials, you will find a few example documents with proper formatting (e.g. Lab 2 Outline).
What is the process to set up a paper in Microsoft Word? Take a few minutes and let us write a paper titled General Lab Example.
