Zip/UnZip Utility
- A zip file is a convenient way to store and transfer a collection of related files.
- In addition, the zip utility compresses the files before including them in the zip
collection. - so you save file space and transfers are faster.
- Don't confuse zip files with zip drives (by IOMEGA). They are unrelated.
A zip file is a special kind of file.
A zip disc/drive is a super floppy for storing 100megs of data
You can store zip files on zip drives, floopy drives or hard drives
- There are many zip/unzip utility programs to choose from. Some cost money and are very
fancy and convenient. Here is a short list.
- The Info-Zip utilities (zip and unzip)
are free. They use a command-line interface.
- WinZip is a window-based,
shareware version.
- Once you start generating multiple file assignments, you will be expected to submit your
assignments as zip files.
