CS252: Log In Failed

You have been directed to this page because you were unable to login to the protected content of this course.

The assignments and grades information for the course are available only to students registered for the course. Other people are welcome to browse the rest of the course material, including all lecture notes.

The login/user name and password for this directory is the same as your CS Dept login and password.

Possible Problems

If you are having trouble logging in, likely reasons are:

  1. You have forgotten your login name or password.
  2. You are leaving the "cs_" off of the front of your login name.
  3. You aren't enrolled in the class, or have enrolled within the past 24 hours.

    It can take a day, sometimes two days, after you register for a course before that information is available to the website.

  4. You don't have a valid CS network account.
  5. Your account is very new or was very recently restored.

    It can take a few hours before your account info is available to the course website.

If you think that none of these apply to you, or aren't sure, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Troubleshooting your account

  1. Try logging in to other CS services, such as the Windows Virtual Lab portal, the VPN, or to linux.cs.odu.edu via SSH.

    If you are able to log in to any of those machines and still cannot enter the website, then either you are not enrolled in the course or there is a problem with the website's records. Contact the course instructor. Be sure to indicate clearly that you were able to log in to linux.cs.odu.edu or to the Virtual Lab.

  2. If you are not able to log in to any of those machines, then the problem is with your account or with your memory of your login name and password.

    Return to the Account Creation page to reset your password. Complete the password reset process, wait an hour, and then try the course website again. If necessary, repeat the earlier steps of this Troubleshooting section.

  3. If you are still unable to log in to the website and to linux.cs.odu.edu, then you must contact the CS systems staff (root@cs.odu.edu) to resolve the issue.
