SeizSmart

SeizSmart is a mobile application based on, smartwatch technology that is designed to improve the detection, tracking, and reporting of generalized seizures.

It continuously monitors the end-user’s heart rate and body movements. Machine learning is applied to the collected data regarding the end-user’s seizures to build a unique, personalized, more accurate seizure profile.

You can execute within the smartwatch itself to enable independent operation without requiring proximity to a relay device.

Solution Statement:

Our proposed solution uses smartwatch technology to provide patients with a wearable device that is capable of automatic detection, notification, as well as the tracking and recording of all essential information, and incrementally downloading the collected data onto the smartphone as needed.

Solution Characteristics

  • Solution employs a machine learning algorithm that takes into account heart rate and repetitive body motion to train device based on patient profile.
  • Heart rate performance and body motion is continuously monitored and this information is uploaded to a smartphone via a web interface to capture a complete record of the patient's profile during a seizure and during normal activity.
  • Solution will provide automatic notification to loved ones and when necessary to emergency responders to maintain maximum safety
  • Our application uses available smartwatch technology that does not require subscription fees to be able to record and report seizures
  • Our application will initiate notification to the end-user's loved ones in the case of an emergency, without the smartwatch depending on the smartphone
  • A machine learning algorithm will be used to create a "seizure profile" for each end- user, which will provide the ultimate personal experience. The users can tweak this setting as needed. (This is needed because there are times when a user might do a new activity that involves a lot of repetitive hand motions)
  • Our solution will alert first responders and other individuals when an individual has a seizure. Family/Friends may clear the first responder alert if they determine the individual is not in a dangerous or life threatening situation.
