.: About the team

Our team consists of five members, all attending Old Dominion University. As of the spring term 2007, we are all in the computer science degree program as upper level undergraduate students. We are brought together by this project.

Currently I am a senior at Old Dominion University. I am pursuing a major in computer science with a minor in modeling and simulation. I just recently moved to Norfolk from southwest Virginia in August of 2006, in an attempt to expedite the completion of my bachelor's degree.

In addition to attending ODU as a full time student, I work as an intern for the Department of Defense (DoD), in the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). In this role I perform systems administration tasks, conform equipment to DoD security standards, and develop various applications, some of which involve front ends for IBM's Content Manager.

I have previous experience in industrial automation control systems for Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and General Electric (TM-GE or TMEIC). This experience involves the design, simulation, testing, programming and interfacing process line control equipment in an industrial setting. Specifically, my experience is in a metals process line control environment transitioning metallic ore to sheet metal, H-beams, pipes, rods, etc. More details here.

I began using computers in elementary school. I was completely in awe when I laid eyes on the green text output of the Apple IIe that we are lucky enough to have. Of course the school eventually purchased its first Mac (with color), which furthered my fascination with computers. Once I hit middle school, I started to type any assignments that had to be turned in on my fathers 486 (running Windows 3.1). Eventually my father realized that we needed a home personal computer, so in 1995 he bought the family a Gateway 2000 P-60 with an impressive 8MB of Ram and 4x CD drive! That summer I believe I saw the computer screen more than sunlight. Playing games became a big part of my life, as well as fixing issues that would arise when games would not work. I learned as much as I could about solving problems and in doing so began writing batch startup files so launch games before Windows could boot (to save memory!). This led to my fascination with scripting and eventually programming, and the rest is “history”!

I am currently employed at Paul D. Camp Community College. Although I have used computers for a number of years now, it is the first real job that I have had where I actually “use” a computer. Prior to this I was a seafood/meat associate at Winn Dixie grocery store chain, and before that I worked as a shop hand at a local contractor. Much of the knowledge that I was able to acquire really provided me with a solid foundation. The additional skills and knowledge that I pick up in my academic endeavors is priceless and helps me a great deal.

My name is Xishun Wang. I came from China.

Before coming to U.S.A, I worked for serveral years at a TV program production and marketing company in China.

The company invests money in the production of movies and TVseries and then sells broadcasting rights to all major TV statons in MainLand China.

My main task was to market our programs, including presenting program samples to different TV stations. If they like the programs, we negotiate a deal on the broadcasting right of the program.

I entered ODU in summer, 2003. I am planning to graduate with a computer science degree in fall, 2007.
